Purpose

Enables non-EU citizens with a job offer to live and work legally in Germany.

Who It’s For

  • Candidates with a binding job offer or signed contract from a German employer.
  • Professionals with a recognized degree or vocational qualification.
  • Regulated professions (e.g., doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers) may require licensing.

Key Requirements

  • Valid job offer or employment contract.
  • Recognition/comparability of qualifications as applicable.
  • Health insurance coverage and sufficient income.
  • Approval from German labour authorities may be required in some cases.

Documents Required

  • Passport and photos; completed visa form.
  • Employment contract.
  • Degree or vocational certificates (with translations).
  • Proof of recognition/equivalence where applicable.
  • CV, proof of insurance and accommodation.

Application Process

  • Secure a job offer from a German employer.
  • Apply for a national work visa at the German mission and attend interview.
  • After approval, enter Germany and register your residence.
  • Apply for the residence permit (work authorisation card).

Rights While in Germany

  • Work for the employer stated on your permit.
  • Eligible to bring family members after approval.

Extensions / Change of Job

  • Work permits are renewable.
  • Changing jobs requires notification to immigration; a new approval may be required.
